Not really because most of that is flood plain. It's might be a net gain and have good trails but since it's on a flood plain do not expect much and it will take a long time to develop.

Central Park is a much much better planned park and has a lot developed areas and places to hang out in. Really can not compare the two. Plus that is basically the only green area for millions on Manhattan.

The way I look at it is America stopped undertaking the projects that familiarized and popularized USA in rest of the world.

If Dallas is taking the initiative to build the next biggest, brightest thing that will attract people then its doing something right!! This will be an engineering feat, an achievement for Civil engineering, infrastructure management where the concept of taming nature and turning it to something useful and beautiful will be demonstrated.

I was in Europe recently...one can see its well past its prime...yet no one can take away the magnificence of Europe. People will continue to visit and throng the streets and wait patiently in queue to take in the man made and natural beauty it offers.

Not only that, but such a park could attract a lot of new residents and businesses to Central Dallas. Klyde Warren Park is one successful example.

Highly doubt with this comment below. Since it will be under water overtime it rains you can assured it will not have nice manicured lawns.

From the webpage

"Before the Harold Simmons Park breaks ground, the US Army Corps of Engineers will need to approve the plans since it's in a flood zone."

"When it rains, the park will welcome the water, lead architect Michael Van Valkenburgh said at a recent conference. The park will naturally flood in controlled areas, and the water will drain into bioswales, sloped courses that absorb water."

So they are going to redefine the Trinity River bottoms as a park. Old news. Just, when you are taking your scenic walk, watch out for the muggers and the dead bodies.

I bet all the "naturally flooded controlled areas" will never, ever, have any mosquitoes in the spring and summer, either.

Yikes the after pictures depicting where the water will run... lovely during mosquito season!
Hope it happens.

Is this another plan to sneak through roads on levees?
