Hello everyone!

I hope someone can help with advice.

I am moving from my apt. My lease ends April 30th.

At 60 days, I tried to transfer from my small unit to a larger unit. The staff said signing a new lease and doing a new application would be easier. Upon receipt of my application, the apartment denied me. This process took about 2 weeks.

Since I was denied for a larger unit, I informed the staff I would leave at the end of my lease. Here's the problem: they want me to pay a reletting fee because they claim I owe for May since I did not turn in my 60 day notice at 60 days.

I'm trying to explain to them, I had no intentions of leaving the property. They denied my transfer, so I have to leave (even though they advised I can stay in my current small unit). If they needed a 60 day notice, even if I was trying to transfer to a new unit at the same complex, someone should've informed me.

What should I do?

Ask to speak to the head person and let them know that you advised the property that you had no interest in remaining in your unit when you applied for the larger unit so in essence your application for a different unit serves as notification that you def intended to move.
