My husband and I are considering a relocation from Jupiter, FL to Dallas. I am hoping for opinions from anyone out there who has already taken a similar path. Are you happy with your decision? We love where we live now, so thinking of moving is more than a little intimidating!

My husband will be working downtown. So far, we have looked into University Park and Preston Hallow for the benefits of the shorter commute. However, we are also interested in visiting some of the surrounding suburbs like Coppell. Any thoughts or comparisons on quality of life between these areas for young families? Being new to the area we are looking for an area that has great schools, neighborhood activities to help get us involved and welcoming neighbors. Thanks for your help!

Our priorities are:
Quality School District/Work Commute
Family Centered Actities/Welcoming Community
Safety

If you can afford HP/ UP and work downtown, then look no further. They're the best public schools in the whole state, a "Mayberry-esque" community where kids ride their bikes and play freely in the neighborhood, and UP/HP city service are second to none.

Preston Hollow will likely require private school for K-5 (and most definitely for 6-12) and admissions letters have already gone out this year. If you're moving for the 2017-18 school year and your husband isn't the AT&T CEO or some other super high-profile person, your private school chances are not good....especially if needing to place multiple kids.

It is really hard to answer this without knowing the ramifications for career and school.

I personally would hate to leave a life near the beach, but you do what you have to do. We are moving from NC and some people have commented "how can you leave such a beautiful state?" But again, you have to weigh the impact on your career, quality of life, your marriage, your children, what kind of house you live in vs. what you can buy. With more information perhaps it would be easier for outsiders to form an opinion.
