Of all the places I have lived this has been the worst so far in finding good meat. The grocery stores I have been to have a terrible selection (Kroger, Tom Thumb, new Central Maket in Allen). It as if the whole state is vegitarian.

Where is a good place to buy quality cuts of meat (Ribeye, filet, strips ect.) I would love to find a good local butcher but a decent grocery store with some selection would be nice.

I live in Allen by the way and work in north Dallas.

Costco has excellent meat, with good prices (you just have to buy several pounds of steak at a time). Ribeyes and strips have been around $7/lb there, and are cut thicker than the typical grocery store cut.

I have actually had very good luck w/ some of the higher end steaks at SuperTarget. For a butcher try David's Meat and Kuby's.

Try Central Market. There's one in McKinney and I believe one just opened in Plano. Prices are decent and the meat is way better than the Albertsons by our house. It's not the best I've ever had, but for the price, it's pretty good.

My mother lives in Oak Cliff but drives to North Dallas to buy her meat in bulk. You always bought it at the Simon David in University Park or the store right across from North Park Mall. I think they have dropped the Simon David name but the stores are still there. The quality is outstanding and we never had a problem with it.

I had heard that SuperTarget has great meat.

But...I can't imagine being disappointed with the selection of meat at Central Mkt. I didn't realize they had an Allen location. Have you tried the location on Coit at George Bush in Plano? It's been there about 6 yrs.

I also cannot imagine being disappointed with Central Market's meat selection! The closest CM to Allen will be the one in Plano and Coit and Bush Tollway. Did you happen to go to a MARKET STREET, since Central Market doesn't have an Allen location? I will agree that Market Street isn't so good.

Try Whole Foods, too. Their meat selection is somewhat limited, but what they have is usually really nice.

I'll second David's, they are one of the last true meat markets left. They are located on Jupiter road in Garland. As others have said there is no Central Market in Allen, so you must have been someplace else. Central Markets has an impressive selection of everything.

There's a seafood market in Plano near Collin Creek Mall called Captain Daves.

My mistake it is a Market Street that just opened in Allen. I went to their grand opening last week. I wasn't real impressed, just another grocery store. I will have to try Central Market.

I found Ye Olde Meat Shoppe located off 15th street in Plano today in the phone book. Just bought four 1 inch thick strip steaks. A very nice locally owned butcher and burger shop. I hope they are good!
