With the admissions decisions less than a week away, is anyone else feeling impatient? I have gotten the impression that application numbers are up this year due to increased numbers of families relocating to Dallas for work. We would be happy with just one acceptance.

I am! We were told applications were up 30-40% at the school we applied to.

Christ the King received 26 applications from current siblings for their DK program. That does not count parishioner applicants without currently enrolled siblings. Not sure what they are going to do about that. Kinder also has way more applicants than they can accept.

By contrast, I think they have space available in 5th. They had fifty percent of the boys in fourth grade apply to Cistercian, and I think almost all were admitted. Last year they only sent 1 boy to Cistercian in 5th. I think only 5 new students applied for CKS 5th so I would guess they have extra space in 5th if anyone is scrambling for a school.

What is a typical DK or Kinder class size at CTK?

In the past DK has been limited to 20 students (one class), but I heard they are expanding to 24 this year. Grades K-8 have two classes each and I think they try for 24 per class, but our classes have had up to 27 students in them.

ETA - I think they keep younger classes (including kinder) to no more than 24 max. Our classes that were larger than that were older grades.

Good luck, everyone.

We're waiting to hear for our daughter (GH).

Was telling my wife the other day that despite the increased applicant pool, there weren't really any threads on this (not like in past years).

I was surprised by this as well! While we don't have any more kids to get admitted (at least for now, they are both in their school of choice), I always tend to look out for private school admission threads around this time of year. I hadn't heard about the uptick in applications, but 30-40% sounds astronomical!!

Good luck to everyone going through the process right now! It's an agonizing wait, but for most families, it should be over quickly .

I agree. I’m hoping that number was a little inflated!

I am hoping that number is inflated as well. We hadn't heard about increased numbers until the admissions deadlines had passed and, had we known earlier, probably would have applied more broadly. I know it is just part of the admissions reality here in Dallas; but it is disheartening to think of my hard-working, sweet kid not getting into any school. I fear, between siblings and other connected folks, this might be a tough year for unconnected families.
