I predict Casto v Villalba in the runoff. Casto is targeting vote rich southern Oak Cliff and Villalba is targeting vote rich Preston Hollow. Lakewood will split between Griggs/Solis.

Villalba didn't even make it out of the last Republican primary, but maybe he has a built-in base of a couple of thousand people to win. Dallas mayor race is a surprisingly small voter turnout race, so whoever can like get 50% of their church congregation to vote they have a good shot to win.

I know both Casto and Griggs - I like them both very much. Griggs has much support than Casto in the white parts of N Oak Cliff where people tend to vote in high numbers. He has far more connections to community leaders in the black sections of South Oak Cliff and he has lots of support among very prominent Hispanic leaders in West Dallas. His real liability is North Dallas. Casto is a great guy (I'd vote for him over any candidate except Griggs) but he lived in Austin up until 2 years ago and hasn't built the network of support he would need to win a citywide election in Dallas - I'd be surprised if he makes it to the inevitable runoff.

Whoever gets the black vote will be in the runoff and Casto is the only one making a play for it. Griggs is despised in the black community (I'm not saying that's right, just how it is).

Griggs best shot is to consolidate the white vote running from basically Casa Linda Theater, through downtown, and to the Kessler Theater; if he can do that he will be able to run ahead of the Preston Hollow vote. But, I think Solis will play spoiler and Griggs will finish third.

I'm pretty sure Albert Black, Jr. (who is black) is as well and one article said he's wanted to run for mayor for quite some time.

Who are the Dallas Citizen's Council and John Wiley Price supporting? I know Price has had legal troubles but he still has plenty of influence in some circles.

This election is Scott Griggs vs. the Dallas Citizens Council. Anyone who supports the long-range health of the City of Dallas (not "the region") should vote Griggs.

Griggs first words at his kickoff party were that we should give the cops a raise, which doesn't sit well with me. We have many more priorities. Raises for suburbanites is not one of mine.
