I'm not surprised. You can also be ticketed in certain places for blocking the sidewalk when you park in your driveway.

Dallas hands those out too. It is really worth parking the right way even if you have to go around the block to do it.

I was astonished when I got that citation in Salt Lake City. I thought it was just Utah being prissy but I guess not. Good to know about the Dallas area!

Growing up in Minnesota, I never saw people parking the wrong way. Ever. The one time my sister pulled up to my house and parked incorrectly, I hustled out there to move her car, only to find an off-duty cop, who happened to be driving by, ripping me a new one for being such an idiot driver.

I found it jarring to find cars parked this way and that way at random when I moved to DFW. I assumed it was legal to park on the wrong side of the street here in TX. Guess it's not - good to know that for future reference.

Channel 8 just did a story about this last night.
Dallas police issuing more parking tickets | Dallas - Fort Worth News | wfaa.com | Local News

Here's a quote:

Citations for parking violations are on the rise.

In December 2008, about 300 wrong-way parking tickets were issued in Dallas. In the same month last year, that number jumped to nearly 3,400.

In January 2009, there were fewer than 500 tickets written for parking against the flow of traffic. Nearly 4,000 were issued in January of this year.

You should have also got a ticket for driving on the wrong side of the road which is what you had to do to get your car in or out of that position.

Cities are searching for ways to raise revenues. Some states are tallking about VAT's. Consider this a warning... Local, state and yes, the federal government are over extended. They need money. Ultimately, it's the basics of how your government is going to work. It's going to get worse.

They could think of it as a preemptive ticket for driving the wrong way.
