Yes, my granddaughter was born at Clements which is run by Southwestern, happy with OG/BYN, L&D, and Pediatrics. I know nothing about Parkland services (Dallas County) which is also run by Southwestern.

Currently seeing the UTSW OB/Gyn clinic for my prenatal care and I've been very happy with them. Feel free to PM me if you want more info.

UT Southwestern was in our top list when we were choosing for my wife's last pregnancy, but ended up choosing Presby Plano and totally loved it. It's the most busiest maternity department probably in whole DFW. You can't go wrong with UT Southwestern as well. Good luck!

It's actually the busiest labor/delivery service in the entire country, at least as of a couple of years ago.

UTSW is fine, I would upgrade it to excellent if you have maternal complications. However they lack the personal touch that other smaller L&Ds have. They are completely swamped with patients most of the time. Nurses still try to keep up, but they don't have as much time to spend with you as other places do just because they are constantly jumping between rooms to help with deliveries.

I would rate UT Southwestern as 'low', because when we were there they didn't have a nursery - baby had to stay in mom's room 100% of the time. That was 5 years ago, so maybe they've changed that policy, but my wife had a c-section and was miserable the entire time she was there and barely able to move - she got almost no sleep in 3 days of stay. Fortunately they did have good nurses who took the baby away for 'long baths' to help her out, but in my opinion the experience at Medical City Dallas was so much better it wasn't even funny.

UTSW did have a nursery 7 years ago... it was purposely eliminated. My memory is that the concept of a nursery is quite old and the outcomes are better with the baby in Mom's room.

I was grateful to have a nursery when I gave birth both times. While I am a believer in rooming in and breast feeding, I was so weak and exhausted after both c-sections that there were times when it wasn’t safe for me to watch my newborns solo when my husband had to leave. I was so glad that the nurses were willing to take my babies for a few hours so I could rest and bring them back when they wished to nurse. It didn’t affect my success at nursing since they each nursed for 18 months and they are happy and healthy.

Yes, I've heard that too - but I'm just speaking from personal experience that like many things, nurseries can be valuable to people who just had surgery. Just giving the OP the knowledge that if they would like some rest or may have a difficult birth, then they should find a hospital that still has one. Also the nursery at Med City Dallas then (8 years ago now) was not required to be used and you can have your baby in your room as much as you wish. I have no idea if they sill have one or not.

I'm not sure if they have one now either (my guess is no--they've been eliminated from a lot of hospitals anyway), but it is worth noting that University Hospital (where you would deliver with UTSW docs unless you were going to Parkland) is in a new building as of 2014/2015ish (cant remember when the actual move happened)--Clements Hospital vs the old St. Pauls, which was knocked down a few years ago.
