Is Downtown Dallas The Most-Recession Proof, Design-Forward Market In DFW?

Downtown Dallas is one of the few spots where out-of-towners can find historical buildings to meet their needs, as Granite Properties did with its conversion of the abandoned West End Marketplace building into creative office and mixed-use. "The catalyst for this project for us is we traveled to Boston, San Francisco and Chicago, and we saw that this brick-and-timber product was the most desirable space across those markets," Granite Properties Senior Managing Director Will Hendrickson said. "And we came back to Dallas, and there’s the West End Marketplace just sitting there vacant.”

That's crazy! Dallas is going through some good times! The amount of density and continuity in its construction is impressive, considering what it constantly has to compete with.

I had a great discussion with someone in the Atlanta vs. Dallas discussion (the thread closed down) and I learned a lot about what Dallas currently has and the potential to become a very dynamic core. Don't get me wrong... I love what the suburbs are becoming and only strengthens the region as a whole. But when Dallas & Fort Worth have strong cores, and places like Richardson, Plano, Irving, etc. continue growing the way they are, we can have one of the most dynamic metros in the nation.

Yep, that was a depressing era for Downtown. I’m glad to see that Downtown has progress to the point that it is now.

Jeez, Dallas has so much potential with that much land in the CBD. It can literally be game-changing if any plans are done right. If Dallas is doing decent with its current land configuration, just imagine when other sites get activated.

That was my exact thoughts when I watched this video too. Luckily, large developments are planned for a few lots. If those plans can come to fruition, I’ll help spark further growth. We just need a few more big projects to get things really going.

With all the attention the leaning tower of Dallas is getting it would make sense for De La Vega to incorporate a leaning tower into the The Central development. It would become an instant tourist attraction and landmark.
