Hi everyone! I was on here quite a bit in February, but fell off for a while getting our OKC house prepped for the market. And with great results - we got on the market last Friday, and we already have an offer coming in tomorrow morning! Keeping our fingers crossed it's a good one!!!

Now that our house is rollin' along, we can concentrate on our move to Dallas. We're coming Saturday to check out 5 RENTAL properties I've found. We're looking for a 2 bed, 2 car garage that's no more than 30 minutes away from Baylor Med Center. Our budget is $1100 - $1700/mo. We're renting because DH's position is only a yearlong fellowship.

So, here are the 5 I've found. Any observations, thoughts, etc. would be wonderful - your honesty and helpfulness is GREATLY appreciated!

LAKEWOOD - zip 75214:
6404 Lange Circle - 2/2/2 $1395
6520 Winton St. - 2/1.5/2 $1695
7233 Dalewood - 2/1.5/2 $1250

LAKE HIGHLANDS - zip 75218:
11312 Carissa - 3/2/2 $1495
10556 Evangeline Way - 3/2/3 $1350

Thank you in advance!

I hope that this helps

Winton is probably the closest to Baylor but only by a few minutes (you wouldn't have to cross Mockingbird). It's probably more expensive because it's in the Lakewood Neighborhood Association boundaries - very few rentals available - I only know of three non-owner occupied homes farther south. All of the first three have great access to White Rock Lake and shopping at Hillside Village/Lakewood Village. Also they are all good locations for great neighbors and walking or walking your dog.

That is Old Lake Highlands, and is a different neighborhood than Lake Highlands. it's still quite nice, but you have to deal with Garland Road or Jupiter Road traffic over there.

KBilly - hmm, I'm not sure the difference between Old Lake Highlands & Lake Highlands. I see that the "old" part is more on the east side, but other than that, I'm not sure. Will you elaborate a bit please? Is it crime? Stagnant area? Schools?

If the schools in OLH aren't as good, that's OK with us. No kiddos in the picture.

I appreciate everyone's input and candid honesty! If you see an address that you would hesitate on, please say so. We'd rather know now than in a couple of months, when we're stuck in our lease.

Thanks again!

It is nicer to be south of Mockingbird on Winton. But Dalewood is a good value.

Do you mind me asking why you're looking at houses instead of apartments? Do you have pets?

There are some apartments on Easton at Garland Rd that may make you hesitate the address that's just off Easton - not sure if they get much trouble from them, but it's something to be on the look out for.

The best locaton is the Winton location.

Dalewood is not bad, but depending on which side of the street, the DART rail tracks may be behind you if that matters. Looks to be close to the same tracks (different location) at Lange Circle.

Ah, thanks for the tips about being south of Mockinbird, and being aware of the house near Easton. I had noticed on the Dallas crime map that location was the highest crime of all of them, so I'm already a bit leery of it.

Also, thanks about the DART tip by Dalewood. I'll keep my eyes peeled. I actually may like it though - I lived in DC by the Metro tracks, and found the sound kinda soothing at night (crazy, I know). I miss it sometimes when our current OKC home is soooo quiet.

Fisher, we're looking at houses just because we're in our 30s and tired of apartment living. No pets, yet (we may get at cat). Both us us have lived in apartments a long time (me, 8 years) and my DH has lived in a house for 7. After we got married last September, we just love having a house. No loud neighbors, more space, and I love to garden. Plus, we both want garage parking and I was afraid that would be difficult (and/or expensive) to have that at an apartment.

No offense to apartment living - it can be really good - my DH had a great townhome he loved, and I had a high-rise apartment in DC with a trash chute (I loved that) and a 24-hour concierge. But it's such a gamble with neighbors. We've also had neighbors with middle-of-the-night music, smoke smell in our apartments, drug dealing, and a woman crying for help. So, we've seen the good - and the bad. Not willing to chance it at this point in life.

Thank you ALL for your informative posts! We really appreciate it!! Wish us luck. We've already seen the Carissa & Lange places - moving on for more!

Amber

OLH is in DISD, and I don't think the surrounding schools are great. But if you don't have kids, then that doesn't matter.

The houses are smaller than LH, and there are a lot more rentals, but it is a cute area.
