I’m looking for a nice condo in Dallas, Frisco or Plano. Which buildings are popular among empty nesters wanting to be in lively and walkable pockets?

Downtown Plano has some condos and I had an empty nester co-worker who lived there and liked it fine. Legacy West is the other option, but i believe the condos there are more expensive. I don't think Frisco has any true lively walkable areas, but I think there is a condo building at The Star.

The Shelton in Preston Center is an option. It's really only walkable to Preston Center, but there are quite a few restaurants and shops there. And it has great access to the tollway. One very nice feature is the valet. I don't know if it's offered 24/7 but every time I've been there the valet is there. Very nice for you or your guests to be able to pull up to your front door and leave the car.

what are the property taxes for a condo? i am torn between buy and rent. In case of buy, The property taxes kind of are similar to the monthly rental. For someone who is fine with relocating for job, wouldn't renting make more sense than buying? unless I rent out my property and make money out of it

There’s taxes, insurance, HOA fees and if you need a mortgage, there’s that payment as well.

Our 1600 sq ft condo’s HOA fee (amenity rich hotel condo) is $1175/mo. Insurance about $80 mo, property taxes about $450 mo. (Homesteaded). So, w/o mortgage about $1700/mo. Rent would be for same unit about $3300/mo. If you need a mortgage, you’d be better off renting to give you the flexibility. But HOA fees vary greatly.

Home value appreciation can make the difference, otherwise it’s the same to rent and less headache.

They have some condos at Park and Preston (the Marquis at Preston Park and Marquis at Preston Tulane). You can walk to Whole Foods.

I would not buy a condo. Look at price history, while houses have doubled in some cases in Frisco etc in last 2-3 years the condos are struggling to sell for the amount they were bought. One of the reasons is high HOA fees.

Just rent a nice apartment, so much better.

Kincaid in Plano by legacy is decent value and there is some walkability and so is LVL29.
