Are there suburbs or smaller cities in Texas that are affordable, safe, less crowded but still within a 1-hour drive to the DFW Airport?

I work remotely so don't care about living on the outskirts of town, but it seems like Dallas and Fort Worth are both too big and expensive.

I'm in Corpus Christi now and I like the size of it and the affordable housing. I don't like the crappy Airport here. I'm just looking for a place ( hopefully still in Texas) that is within 1 hour drive to a major airport and still has affordable housing under $250K.

For reference I just bought a 3 bedroom 2 bath 2 car garage 1050 SF home for $167K in Corpus Christi. I'm looking to buy something similar but within an hours drive to major airport - looking for ideas. Thank you.

Everyone wants that. You’ll be competing with cash buyers looking to purchase rental property. I did a search with the following filters: under 250k, under 15 years old, 3 bed, 2 bath, within 50 miles of Fort Worth. Most of the results were pending, mobile homes, super far out, like Mineral Wells or Hillsboro far out, or in South Dallas or similarly undesirable neighborhoods in Fort Worth.

Keeping to about an hour from DFW IMO you are better off looking north or south. Check Sanger, Gainesville, (likely 65/70 minutes from /DFW, Valley View all too the north. Others with have ideas to the south.

IMO it can be done. I know you can find a solid home in Gainesville for $250K if it's not too far out.

To the south it looks like Alvarado or Cleburne would be in that budget and probably right around an hour at non-peak drive times.

I am confused by the responses here. I just did a map search on a local real estate website and there seem to be lots of houses that fit the bill. I'm not an expert in this area by any means and I'm sure there are some issues with any house at a lower price point, but if you don't need schools and you are only looking for 1000 sq ft then an hour from DFW gives you a lot of area to consider. it seems like there are multiple options in Arlington, Grand Prairie, North Richland Hills...several areas close in to DFW.

Some of the older neighborhoods in Arlington and Grand Prairie are notorious for higher crime, and trashy homes, and those houses may need major work.
Since you don’t need schools, I’d look in Euless and Hurst south of 183. You will be competing with investors for sure.
Gainesville is well over an hour away on a Sunday afternoon. Sanger is pushing it in an hour, and will be over a hour in rush hour traffic.

Check Denton, Azle, and I recall some new manufactured houses HEB area.
There’s a new listing in Euless, 605 Martha St., for $169K.

If you get out into the rural areas, and you need high speed internet for your work, be sure that high speed internet is available. In some areas, it is not, or it may only be available through satellite which is $$$.

You might look into Decatur or Rhome, too.

Sherman is a nice good sized small city that is an hour from DFW other than maybe worst rush hour along the routes near DFW. It is a fast growing area if that matters to you.
