We are currently from Illinois. Hubby is an electrician. We are considering moving. Are there jobs there for hubby? He is not union here. Currently does new residential, remodels, services, some commercial. What is the job market like for him? Is this a good area for kids? We have 3 kids- 4, 3, 8 months. I homeschool. We would want to rent first- need a 3 bedroom.

The economy (right now) is good and if he's a hard worker should be able to find work. New Home Construction has slowed so the demand on that end would be weak. I'm in the Las Colinas area and construction there is booming. Texas has probably the best economy in the US right now and if all the California people don't spoil it, our housing is still very affordable.

Fuel prices are driving up our costs here also, but that's nationwide.

You don't want to do residential anyway. There's plenty of contractors that do commericial and industrial work that he won't have to worry about being residential.

Default Great place for kids and homeschooling

I think Dallas metroplex is a great place for children. There are lots of good schools to choose from, lots of parks for children to play at, and just lots of children in general. And I have met more parents who homeschool since we've moved to Dallas than in any other city we've lived in. They even have a large homeschooling conference up in Plano every year.

We have family in the Northeast and love the weather and diversity in CA, but will stay in Dallas because we think it is the best place to raise a family.

I don't know anything about the residential construction market though. But I would think there are just as many jobs here for new construction and remodeling as anywhere else in this economy. I would encourage you to keep researching Dallas, it's a great place for families.
