Always thought it was odd that Forney seemingly had some issues when I was looking on the east side of the region for moving. Perhaps I don't understand the dynamics just yet.
Yes, Travis Ranch is between Forney and Heath. No, it’s not run-down. Evidently the issues are with some of the residents and their family members. Many of the people who live there came from Mesquite, Pleasant Grove, Balch Springs, etc. to get away from crime, but they brought it with them. As I said, the crime issues are almost totally domestic violence, but there is a lot of it.

As for Leonard’s comment about Rockwall, yes, traffic there is getting heavier. Rockwall has the best shopping on the east side of the lake, so everyone from Kaufman County, Greenville, etc. comes to shop in Rockwall. It’s still a much nicer town than Forney.

I will be very honest with you that the commute from Forney to downtown Dallas is going to suck. There's just no other way to put it. US 80 is horribly crowded, and the traffic will only get worse with the growth, and the current reconstruction of the Trinity River bridges. Maybe it will be better after the road construction is over, but that is several years away.

There are not enough grocery stores in Kaufman County. Forney has a WalMart, Brookshire's, small Aldi, and the big Kroger that is always crowded and under-stocked. A Tom Thumb is coming, and HEB has bought land, but for now, those stores are all we have. Whenever I am in Dallas on the weekends, I bring a cooler and do my shopping in town!

Forney is getting a Kohl's and some other big-box retail stores behind the Kroger on 548. The Mustang Place neighborhood is next to the Kroger and that large retail area on 548, so it will always have a lot of noise/traffic from that very busy road. There are more retail stores in Terrell, and of course in Mesquite.

Crime is becoming an issue in some neighborhoods near Forney, particularly Travis Ranch and Windmill Farms. Both of these are outside the actual city limits, so they rely on the Sheriff and not on Forney PD. There have been several shootings and assaults in Travis Ranch, almost all of which were due to domestic violence. Yesterday evening, there was a shooting in Windmill Farms. Mustang Place is in the city limits, so hopefully these communities' issues will not be a problem in that neighborhood.

Forney schools are mostly well-regarded, and they just passed a huge bond election that will help them to keep up with the growth.

Feel free to ask any other questions. We don't have many regular posters who live out here!

Hi! My wife, toddler and I live in Forney. In the Facebook page of our community, many parents complain about the quality of the schools and ask for advice about private education. We live in Devonshire and I think our elementary school is Griffin.

Could you please elaborate on the Forney schools? Thanks!

Forney ISD was rated a B by the TEA for 2022. That's the same rating as Terrell ISD, Crandall ISD, and Mesquite ISD. Kaufman ISD was rated an A. Here's the website where you can read the TEA ratings: https://rptsvr1.tea.texas.gov/perfre...html?year=2022

There are very, very few private school options in Kaufman and eastern Dallas County.

Thank you for the insight. Anyone have experience with the builder in Mustang Place, Crescent Homes?
