Hello,

Last year I was way behind everything in applying and so not prepared, I would like to know if anyone knows typically how many kids apply for 2nd grade at GH, lamplighter and Alcuin

Thank you!

I’m sure the admissions office can provide you a ballpark number but it doesn’t really matter if it’s 10, 20, or 30 kids because 2nd isn’t an expansion grade. So, first a current student(s) need to not be returning and second, your kid needs to be the best candidate that fits the same demographic. If GH loses 2 girls, they are going to rebalance the class with 2 girls, meaning all boy candidates have 0 chance. Same goes for students who bring economic or cultural / racial diversity…if those are the spots opening, you need to be in that demo to be considered.

I saw that first hand at in our school directory this summer as we were planning for new student events. Over the past few months, 2 kids in our grade moved away and one left for another private school. Each time, the new kid added to our grade fit the gender demo (and diversity demo for the non-white student who left).

I don’t know enough about Alcuin to know how much churn there is, but GH & LL are going to have basically 0 movement unless someone is moving away. GH’s website says historic attrition is 1-3 students per year for 2nd-4th.
