What are the good and impressive modern art museums in, around or near Dallas.

I recently was informed of The Modern in Fort Worth but I'm not sure I want to drive all the way out there.

Any suggestions. I'm in North Dallas.

Fort Worth's Modern is supposed to be excellent. I am not a fan of modern art, but I do like their cafe! It's only a 45-minute drive...and you could also see the Kimbell which is next door.

AFAIK, Dallas only has the Dallas Museum of Art, which is generalized and has all types of art. It currently has the King Tut exhibit so it is crowded!!

I like The McKinney Avenue Contemporary

Granted, it's not what I would call a museum, but I've seen some really cool stuff there. They have a bit of everything. And if you click on 'Links' on the Home page, there's a dozen gallery listings/contemporary spaces where you can find exhibits info. Most of which are open to the public and free. If you're solely after big and impressive and more well known names, consider doing the drive into Ft. Worth. The MAC is more intimate and, well, as the kids used to say "hip".

Make the drive to FW. I spent several hours at the Kimball and the Amon Carter a few weeks ago. Totally worth the drive.

The museum scene in Ft Worth destroys the scene in Dallas. (Although the DMA is worth visiting.)

No, I didn't forget it.

Artsyguy - make the drive to Fort Worth. It's worth it.

Fort Worth has a superb museum complex. So does its sibling, Dallas. A true art lover will know the charms of both - and will appreciate both. For modern art, Fort Worth is a nationally recognized destination for such. One does not "drive out" to it like you're going to a more convenient Costco. Brush up "artsyguy." Your ignorance of your surroundings is blaring in your posts....
