These are the ones that I have heard of:

Baker Botts
Vinson & Elkins
Fulbright & Jaworski
Weil Gotshal
Gibson Dunn
Jones Day
Thompson & Knight
Hughes & Luce

I am just curious if certain firms have a certain panache, for purposes of impressing in dinner parties and such, in the Dallas area.

I'm confused -- who would you be trying to impress at dinner parties, exactly? And how would prestigious law firms figure into impressing anyone? Are you trying to find work at one (I assume not as a lawyer, because then you'd be asking your law school's career office, but perhaps a paralegal)?

Other big firms in the Dallas area are K&L Gates, Skadden Arps, and Greenberg Traurig.

Hughes & Luce is a smaller, local firm, correct? The lawyers who work there may be prominent in the Dallas area -- I woldn't know, as I'm from Mass -- but the other firms, and the ones I've listed above, are all very big players nationally.
