Google "dallas area teacher jobs network'.......that will take you to the Region 10 education service center 16 counties in and around Dallas. Then Click on 'job listings' and then on 'search by credentials'. There are currently over 400 jobs open.....and there will be many more by May 1.

Many of the districts listed are small towns around Dallas but many of them are larger districts within the metroplex including Dallas itself. For more info about a particular district, click on 'district information.' The smaller towns have much less expensive housing even tho they may not pay as much, and the school atmosphere is much less stressful. Most of them are an easy commute to a university if you need to attend college to get certification. Also, Reg 10 sponsors alternative certification that you can earn while teaching.

I saw an ad that ran on my Verizon Fios Cable advertising for Dallas ISD teachers...I could have sworn it said starting pay is 48,000...someone posted that they think starting pay is 42,000, but I don't know...in my town Teachers generally start at 28,000 or something around there...I don't know where they would be putting new teaching recruits...Dallas is a big place...that doesn't sound like bad money to start out on.

Unless your a bilingual or special ed teacher with a master's I doubt your going to get 48k to start. 42k would be more realistic IMHO.

Wow, I would think with the property taxes they take in over there, they could pay the teachers a little more...

I believe HPISD is affected by the Robin Hood law or whatever it is - the state takes money from their taxes and sends it to poorer school districts.

I think they ended the robinhood plan and the state was told to come up with something else. At least that is my understanding. I am surprised HPISD is hiring so many teachers. I am sure most of those teachers never leave once they get hired.

Nope, Robinhood is still alive and kicking.

While the Park Cities has a much higher property value they also have one of THE lowest property tax RATES in Dallas County. Because from day one practically they approve every bond, construction project, expansion, etc. So they probably paid LESS to have schools built than cities that SHOULD have been building at the same time but could not get voters to approve such. It's always cheaper to pour concrete and buy building supplies/materials TODAY than what it will be in 2 years.

Older schools tend to have a lower teacher turnover while new schools can have a large turnover for awhile. When the older and/or better schools have a large need it is often due to teachers retiring and not becuase they are "wanting out".
