Hello all,

I've got a good opportunity in Plano and will likely be moving to Dallas from Chicago soon. Due to personal reasons, my family and I will likely move to/near the Uptown neighborhood.

I've researched commute times posted in various threads but they seem to vary from 25 min to 55 min, so I wanted to take another shot. I apologize in advance if it seems that every other question from newcomers is around commute but it is a big part of life in Dallas and I want to go in with my eyes open.

If I left Uptown every morning at 7:30 am, how long do you think my commute would be to the EDS Campus in Plano (Legacy Drive and DNT)? Would it be the same at night, say leaving EDS at/around 8 pm and heading South?

Many, many thanks

If you are near the tollway in the uptown area, then 20-30 minutes should be fine. On the DNT, heavy traffic is headed south in the mornings(northbound is running smoothly) and north in the afternoons(southbound is running smoothly). You would be doing a reverse commute of the heavy traffic flow, so it would be pretty easy.

Now, occasionally there is a wreck on the opposite side of the main traffic flow and it can cause some short back-ups, but nothing too bad.

I picked 30-40 minutes for your morning commute, but your evening commute at 8:00pm would be quick - 20-25 minutes at the most, door to door.

For Uptown there is an enter/exit for DNT at Inwood, for traffic flow to/from north only. There's an entry/exit at Lemmon but is for downtown flow only.

Figure the toll road mileage x your anticipated speed plus off highway distance. You'll usually make good time on the toll road since, as stated above, you'll be going against rush hour traffic. You will still encounter the occasional bottleneck at Hwy 12 and at I635. These are high traffic intersections and lane reductions at I635, so your timing will determine slow downs.

From Uptown you would get on the tollway via McKinnon, not Inwood or Lemmon.

Per Google Maps, it's about 30 minutes:
from: state & allen dallas to: 5400 legacy plano - Google Maps

McKinnon is an option. If I were around the Fitzhugh area I believe I'd go with Wycliff/Lemmon. The McKinnon area is more local to State/Thomas than Uptown.
