Maybe I am just oblivious to the world around me... but I am wondering if anyone knows when 161 will open from 183 in Irving south to I20 in Grand Prairie? I have seen that there are exit signs now up, but I have not heard that opening to traffic is in the immediate future. Last I heard it was not supposed to be open until like 2009 or something...
If anyone knows please post.
Thanks

It will be in the next few years, but the feeder roads will be the first things to be done. Then the work will begin on the mainlanes.

Here's something for you: TxDOT Keep It Moving Dallas District Projects

In it, you'll have info on 161 and some other Metroplex projects.

I've been wondering, too. We flew over it not too long ago and didn't see much construction, if any, from the air. The connectors are built at 183 and I-20 but we couldn't see much in between.

Well, unfortunately, the proposed 161 is going right smack up against our apartment complex! The dang service road will go right past our front gate and I mean just a hair's width from it!!!! It is such a mess right now with all the ruts in the road and the ugliness and all the trees now gone that I don't even use that entryway anymore, I use the back gate. We're right up against I-30 on one side so I don't know what the noise will be like whenever 161 is done. Supposedly, it was in the works awhile ago but they are speeding up construction to time with the opening of the new Cowboys stadium.
