Hello! my family and I are wanting to move to the north dallas area in the future....first off, my daughter and I are weather nuts, and are so looking forward to the severe weather that texas has to offer....my question is, what is the best area for storm activity? ....I have been told that some areas of north texas seem to be in a storm shadow, and tend to not see as much severe weather/tornado action as do other towns??? we would appreciate any help and suggestions on where to consider moving..we are also considering the saginaw area as well......thanks!

I can't offer much help as I'm in the process of moving there too, however, it is nice to see that I'm not the only weather nut out there. I used to live in Oklahoma and I love this time of year!

Dallas hasn't had a real tornado since 1957. Knock on wood.

My experience is that the west side of Ft. Worth (especially southwest) bears the brunt of the severe weather here. Severe storms tend to track from SW to NE in Texas. Most of Dallas seems to benefit from the shadow effect. If you decide on north Dallas, probably the farther north you go, the better.

thanks for the info!....we were thinking grapevine for a while, but were told it does not see that many storms....also considering saginaw...we want to move in a suburb area that is fairly low in crime and noise, but that also sees it's fair share of severe weather...

Far western Tarrant county, Jack, Palo Pinto, Johnson, Wise, Parker counties. All have more action than Dallas county. Then anything up around the Red River.

thanks! wow, am I glad I asked about this,.. that would have been bad to buy in a storm shadow area, after living in one for almost 30 years........now another question if I may...what areas are prone to flooding? I do not want to buy a home and find out it is in a flood plain!..

Right now you can watch the weather and storms roll thru on the local news stations websites. My fave is wfaa.com (Channel 8 ABC here locally).
