Hi, I was hoping someone could help me narrow down some choices. I'm single young female and moving to DE early next year, and would like to find a short-term rental between Newark and Wilmington to have easy access to both cities while looking for a more permanent apartment or house. My problem is that I either find something good that is not short term or is beyond my price range, or I find something short term in my range that has consistently bad reviews elsewhere or has been called out on City-Data as being a bad apartment complex. Right now I'm shooting for "relatively okay" by looking at apartments with mixed reviews.

I'm basically looking for monthly or 3-month unfurnished rentals with a cap of about $1,000/month (though I'd be more comfortable around $700-$800--I know this may get me ghetto and/or small, I'm fine with that since it's only for 3 months). I don't mind living in a 300 square foot shoe box. So far I've got The Bluffs on my list, with Pike Creek Apartments as a maybe (it looks like their shortest lease is 6 months? but I will call them to confirm). Is Hunters Crossing as bad as it looks? Is Glen Eagle Village okay? Haverford Place Apartments?

My only real concerns are safety, bugs, and shifty/shady management. For reference as to crime tolerance, my last apartment was a block from a crackhouse that the crackheads kept accidentally setting on fire at odd times of the night. They never really posed any other problems, just the fires. That sort of thing, I'm okay with living next to. Violent crime, not so much.

Merry Christmas/happy holidays, and thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I can't speak for the management as i don't live in any of the areas you mentioned. Having said that, i live in Pike Creek and recommend the area to anyone wanting a safe neighborhood. I'd say Pike Creek is your best bet, followed by haverford apts. The haverford area is a bit less desirable, but very safe.

Not sure if education is important to you, if it is Pike Creek is again your best bet, while Newark will be an issue.

Hope this helps. Happy holidays to you.

Thanks, SarasotaBound. Knowing the safety of the general areas is indeed helpful! I will look into other apartments in the Pike Creek area.
