I'm looking to retire or move down to lower Delaware sometime in the next few years or maybe OP MD. I’m from the Annapolis Crownsville area which is very nice but getting expensive here in this part of MD ( I could tell you why but that’s for a political forum.) Anyway, I would like to know is living in around the Lewes area any better than say ocean view DE. I been to both but haven’t stayed long enough to get a good sense of which one I would like better. I also like OP MD. I know the property taxes are higher; however, the houses seem cheaper and some of the developments in lower DE have HOA fees that are so high that it makes it more expensive to live there then MD, so I’m a bit confused. I just like to get the perspective from people who have retired there from MD or people who lived there a long time. I did see a lot of Ravens fans around the area which is always a good thing.

Default Good Question

I don't have your answer, because my wife and I are thinking about retiring to the Lewes-Rehoboth area in a few years ourselves (from Chicago). Suggest if you don't get an answer on here, you browse through the 55+ Retirement Communities thread, although it is limited (as one could guess) to retirement communities.

We have found that actual Delaware real estate taxes are very low compared to most places we live. If the quotes seem high, check to see if the place you are looking at is charging a land lease fee.

Hope that helps, and good luck on your search!
