Anyone know how wine and liquor prices compare to Maryland?

I'll be in the Rehoboth/Dewey Beach area. And I'm wondering where the best prices are.

I suppose DE being tax free, that's a plus price-wise right there.

Not only tax free. There is a lot of competition so they hold prices as low as possible.

The liquor store on DE 1 right where the Rehoboth Mall/Old Landing Road light is has always been the cheapest place in my experience that doesn't suffer from a poor selection.

I believe De. is cheaper depending upon where you are in MD. The first liquor store in MD near the De. border is probably close price wise or else they would lose the business for the sake of a mile. If not near a border, I would say De is cheaper.

Re: which store. I think it depends upon what you need. A case of beer is a $1 difference between Atlantic (old Landing) and Outlet. The stores all have signs outside with specials too.

I'm a wine drinker. Try to stay below $10 a bottle....A post in the MD board says that MARYLAND prices are better than Del. I'm hoping to get some more answers on this.

Why not post a couple of favorite wines and if we happen to be in the liquor store we can shop for you.

Thanks, but I like to just go in and see what I find. Now real favorites.
I was just curious about whether MD or DE was DEFINITELY, and consistently cheaper.

That would be Atlantic Liquors. Great selection and good prices. Getting away from the Rt1 corridor the store in the shopping center where Harris Teeter is on 24 ( Long Neck)is real close competition for them. They have a hugh wine selection.

I was going to check out Atlantic Liquors. But then a friend who's been going to Rehoboth for decades recommended Outlet Liquors, right down the road. Said she went there and they knew their inventory, and was patient. SO she had a good service experience there.

I've seen reviews and comments say Atlantic and Outlet are the two big guns in the area -- and are basically neck and neck price-wise.

So anyone know about Outlet Liquors? And have any comments comparing Atlantic and Outlet?

We much prefer Atlantic Liquors over Outlet Liquors. Atlantic's staff is nicer and more knowledgeable. It's smaller, which is the downside.

If you really want a wonderful wine-browsing experience, keep driving south on Route 1, past the Rehoboth Ave. exit and then over the canal bridge. On the left, just past the entrance to a little shopping center, is Bin 66, a gem of a boutique liquor store. Tom and Tom, the owners, are terrific and they have an excellent staff as well.

There's always a kiosk of wines under $10 that they especially recommend. You can join their wine club for free. It features six wines each quarter, discounted 20%. Plus if you buy 6 bottles or more of regular inventory, that's 10% off. They also have a WONderful Saturday afternoon tasting with yummy hors d'oeuvres to accompany the wine. That starts May 1.

Re: MD vs. DE prices. We live in PA. We used to drive to a MD store just across the DE border because prices were so much better. (I can only speak to wine and spirits; we're not beer-buyers.) MD raised the taxes considerably a couple years back, and suddenly the economics changed. Now we visit DE stores. (But, I hasten to add, only for consumption while we're at our condo in Delaware. <cough, cough>)
