I am looking to buy a house in Wilmington. Will not use any school, but I hear Red clay district is good. Mass transit, downtown, hospital and park is nearby.

Cool spring, trolley square, riverfront areas do not work for one reason or another, price per Sq.Ft. is one common factor. Very seriously considering Triangle neighborhood, the area covered within W-18th, N-Broom and Baynard. Old houses, matured trees and friendly neighbors are what I had noticed during couple of road trips.

The price seems to be reasonable. My budget is 300K, but I can do 350K, depending on how much work the house needs. Need to pay mortgage off as soon as possible, for I may not be able to work much long.

What am I missing? Is there anyone who lives/lived in the area? Anyone else with any experience, opinion?

Appreciate your time.

Red Clay is definitely a good school district for the area.

I have a friend who moved into a row home within the Red Clay district 2 weeks ago that was in okay condition, but it was very affordable for him and his budget is about half of yours.

I am not familiar with the Triangle neighborhood.

Thank you Chessimprov. Among other things, I am looking for a garage. Wilmington does feel expensive these days, given a quiet little town that is.

Well, at least I did not hear anything bad about the area, yet. Thank ya'll.

Delaware will be cheaper than Pennsylvania, and with New Jersey, there's the bridge toll you'd have to factor in. So, Delaware is your only option pretty much.
Buying a house is not cheap, let alone a condo. So, I hope you have enough saved up.

You could consider a co-op living arrangement, but those are harder to come by and most of those places are older too.
