OP asked for alternate ways and by now, she has enough information ...I gather that she mentioned saving money is not as important as making the journey less stressful ... she must have energy left to have a good time with her daughter, that is the purpose she is going to NYC

I have taken Amtrak from Wilmington to NYC several times since moving to De. It is easy to park and get on the train in Wilmington. The Chinatown thing sounds interesting...maybe going to try that...thanks for the tip!
