$400 for a crown down here. No dental insurance.

Root canal about $500, depending on complexity.

That is the going rate. If you do not have dental insurance, as I did not when I had my last crown replaced, I bought Aetna Dental Access, and it cost about $780. total. You must use a participating dentist, but there were several in my town. We are very pleased with the plan.

You show your locations as "AK & HI." Both high cost of living areas.

Now, if you were to have dental work (crown w/ root canal) you'd be looking at $225 all in, if you were is Tijuana. Most of the dentists there are schooled in America, so you're going to get fairly high quality work, too. (In SoCal, about $1800.) LOTS of patients go down there for dental work, now.

I do have dental insurance that pays half.

My dentist for several decades retired last year, passing on his business to a new practitioner.
This new guy has a different approach with billing. After the first of two visits for the crown, I was offered the choice of paying for the anticipated balance after insurance of the entire project right now or just half of it now, half later.

Since the visits were spaced over 1 month apart, I chose door number 2.

My previous dentist only billed after receiving payment from insurance, well after all the work had been done.

These reports of $200-300 in Mexico, a little bit more further south in Ecuador, illustrate why many people choose to make an international vacation for dental work.

Why do you say "most of" the dentists there were schooled in the US? I don't believe it. I have never been to Tijuana but none of the Mexican border dentists I have seen were schooled in the USA.

I will wager the exact opposite: none or almost none of them were schooled in the US. Unfortunately my browser crashed and I lost the links, but I googled 5 different top Google-rated dentist offices in TJ and not a single person was schooled in the US.

Here is the one I didn't lose, but look the others up. You'll be hard pressed to find a single one

Depends on location, dentist, his costs, difficulty of the job
Even in same zip code you will find variation
But cheap dentistry may not be the bargain you think

I have had crowns that lasted 30 yrs—or more—that’s a bargain at almost any price

With insurance my portion was $600.00. Cash pay would've been $1600.00. Located in CA.
