I'm considering applying to DU from NYU. Is the school prestigious? Does it have a good reputation -- especially in the work force?
Also, where would be an affordable place to live in the area. I pay $1,200 for a one bedroom in NY now, but would definitely like to find a 1-BD for under $1000. Is this possible, and where would be a safe commutable area to do this?
Thank you.

DU is a fine private university with a good reputation. Then again, I've never given much credit to the reputation of a school - your college education is as good as you make it.

As to housing, the immediate DU area is more singe family homes than apartments. The apartments in the area tend to be a bit older, and you can get a 1 bedroom starting at around $600.

Lots of older apartments just south of the campus and newer ones along University just east of campus. The older ones are obviously cheaper and you can find 1 bd/1 ba apartments for $500-700/month. It's a great neighborhood and the campus is beautiful, and is also right next to a light rail station.

DU has a good reputation. It's no Vanderbilt, Rice, Duke, etc. but it is a Top 100 private university and well-respected especially in Colorado.

It all depends where you want to live, what makes the most sense for you. If you want to live in Denver, stay here after you graduate, and build a career here long term, then DU is a great local choice and you'll build life long connections. If you want to return back east (or somewhere else) after you graduate, I'd stay where you are.

You can find middle of the road but liveable apartments here for as low as the 600's on up, and very nice apartments for about 800+ per month.
