Bye Bye Craigslist :-(
By ERIC | Published: JUNE 22, 2012
It’s with a heavy heart that I must announce that PadMapper is no longer including Craigslist rental listings – they’re currently being wiped from the search index. I recently received a Cease and Desist letter from Craigslist, and wasn’t able to get a meeting or convince Craigslist’s lawyer that PadMapper was beneficial to Craigslist and apartment hunters in general. They allow mobile apps to display their listings if you buy a license from them, but not websites.

If you or any of your friends that PadMapper has helped would like to weigh in and tell them how PadMapper has helped you search through Craigslist, you can contact them at:

jim@craigslist.org – Jim Buckmaster, CEO
craig@craigslist.org – Craig Newmark, Founder

If you do contact them, please, please keep it civil. Perhaps if they see how many people PadMapper has helped, they’ll be willing to consider changing their minds.

I can't imagine that this is going to hurt at all? Reputable apartment complexes don't rely on listings on craigslist for all of their advertising. They will be listed on apartments.com, rent.com, etc.. which padmapper uses as well

Smaller buildings are often only on CL. I know that in many Midwestern cities, CL listings are the majority.

CL is important for its listings of condo units for rent, the apartment complexes are easy enough to find. The problem with CL is how many people jack their listings by sneaking in a bunch of areas that have nothing to do with the unit. You want to live in DTC and if you do a search you'll get more listings than not which are in DTC because the listings will say something like convenient to DTC. Its convenient only if you think driving 30 minutes is convenient.

I hope CL gets serious about real locations and starts offering a mapping solution. Looking for a place on CL is maddening.

I saw this a few days ago--not cool. We relied heavily on Padmapper to sort through Craigslist ads. It's always fun trying to find a place in the Highlands on Craiglist when search output includes all of Highlands Ranch!
