But way less than Portland. Big SUVs are not out of place anywhere in Denver.

I guess I'm going to have to plan a trip to Denver soon, since that's the only way I'll get any sun this summer...
I think you'll find Denver to be a much better fit than Portland. I lived in Oregon for a short time after growing up in Colorado, and I absolutely could not wait to get back to Colorado. The gray skies, liberal politics, and swampy grassy areas due to the rain were all a huge shock after growing in sunny, relatively more conservative, and much drier Colorado.

Colorado Springs is sort of the beacon of conservative thought in the state, although many parts of metro Denver would fit you quite well, too.

[quote=Madame Defarge;24901130]I

I'm trying to convince my husband to find a new place to live and raise our kids, but he is resisting because he's from the Pacific Northwest and doesn't want to uproot our family...

If husband's roots run deep, this might be your greatest challenge. And, if he loves the lush greenery of the PNW, it is possible that Colorado will feel dry, brown, searingly hot at times, and an affront to skin and nasal passages. (But only because it IS!)

Yes, get your gang out here on a family trip. Bringing things out of the abstract and grounding your speculation in tangible experiences can offer loads of clarity to these types of situations. Who knows? You might have a ball and return home with a new perspective. Many find Colorado and the Rockies are a wonderful place to visit -- but for whatever reason, not the place they'd choose to call Home. Others can't wait to pack up, plant new roots, and pray/dance for rain. You can't win if you don't play...

ChrisFromChicago,.....I think that's hysterical about your compost bins at your work!! I can see it in kitchen work ( although the health department wouldn't allow it but, hey....anyplace else)!
I know someone who has recycle trash bins and compost bins at her work ( just started that about a year ago) and she works for an insurance company!!! She is a supervisor and, she is required to write up "offenders" (employees that don't use the correct bins) and discipline accordingly!! I've never laughed so hard in my life when she told me this!! Can you imagine....."Mr. Jones, although you work hard and have made this companies profits soar, I am going to have to put a red mark in your folder because you were seen putting your juice can in the same trash bin with your potato chip bag"!! I just think it's funny!! I believe in recycling but really, I don't think someone should get looked over for a promotion for using the wrong bin!!! Ya' know?!!!

I think I just saw someone call Denver "white bread" in comparison to Portland. Hilarious.

It is now, again, in bankruptcy and perhaps Bimbo may acquire it. Wonder Bread is distributed under license by Bimbo in Mexico but Bimbo does not own the brand.

You are thinking of the large Oroweat Bakery on Evans and Bimbo did acquire Oroweat.

Yet, most of the bread produced, sold and consumed in Denver is produced by the Supermarket Chains which owns and runs their own Bakeries, that is Kroger's(King Soopers) and Safeway.

That also leaves out myself. in that I try to entice my "Bimbo" of the month with the idea that I have my hands on plenty of dough, but what they find is a sweating fat man, dusted in flour, with the allure of baking bread.

I use the rapid rise yeast made by Viagra but it still is a little doughy; a little hand kneading seems to work.
