We have finally gotten a job! A very high paying job. However due to our previuos situation our mortgage payments got behind when my husband job laid him off. Now we need to rent since we are relocating across country. Will we have a difficult time? My husbands new company is giving him $6000 to put down on a rental. We are looking to do about $2000 rent a month.

I'm not sure about renting a house, but I know an apartment complex looks at a bunch of things and not just credit. They look at your past history and whether or not you have been evicted. They look at your credit score, they look at your income level, and a few other things I'm not thinking of. I also just picked up a decent paying job in Denver and I have a recent shortsale under my belt. I was worried about the same thing. We ended up getting approved even without them needing my offer letter to prove income.

Hopefully this will help relieve some stress for you.

I've known of others here with similar situations who recently rented in apt complexes. One couple paid a larger security deposit of only a few hundred $ & the other, a single male, was able to just pay 3-mos' rent upfront.

With his income, your $6K housing allowance & $2K available for rent, you should have no problem with many landlords. Call around first after searching online to inquire, rather than run around like crazy when you arrive. We did that (just arrived, also) & it really cut down on stress. Best of luck in your new home & your husband with his new job!
