Hi I'll be moving to the USA for 3-4 months next summer from Dublin, Ireland with two friends and am really looking forward to it! We spent quite while deciding on our destination and after narrowing it down to Denver, Seattle or Portland it looks like we have settled on Denver. Most Irish people tend to go to California, Boston or Chicago for the summer but I suppose we want to go somewhere a bit different. We are into outdoor adventure sports so Denver's location seems ideal.

I was just wondering would anyone be able to give me advice on the likelihood of me getting a job in Denver next summer. I will have a bachelor of Science degree (Environmental Biology) by the time I move over but don't really expect to get a job in this area - I am more looking for a full time summer job, would be happy with not too much more than minimum wage really, as this will be more of a working holiday! My aim wouldn't be to earn money to bring home with me, rather I'd just like to have enough to cover costs for the summer. I have applied for the J1 visa as it's known so I will legally be allowed to work in the USA for up to four months. I have experience working in an office and a small bit in retail and a bar.

Any other advice on things to do in Denver in general, or nightlife (we love electronic/house music!), places to rent etc would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

1. You have to love the spirit of adventure that young people have. "Come on down".
And, then I other thoughts
2. Irish. Hmm. They will want "one of their own" to become POTUS. Next it will be the Italians. They will agitate to have the first parade in the USA to recognize an employee of the Queen of Spain.
3. Bartending. House painting. Landscaping. Find these companies on Google, Yelp, CitySearch and make lots of [cheap internet] phone calls.
4. Girls will think your accent is cute. Draw your own conclusions.
5. Renting a place is going to be challenge. The rental market is very tight.
6. Is it not true that we have grizzly bears wandering the streets and eating people.

I hope you get here, and when you do, come on down to Colorado Springs and visit THIS place for a taste of home; Guinness served - at least 8 types.

go to coolworks.com and look for seasonal jobs at a National Park or resort area. I worked in Glacier Nat'l park in Montana in 1999 for minimum wage and had the room rent deducted from my paycheck.
