Husband and I are relocating to Denver and have an apartment just two blocks from DU. We liked the area (from what we could tell from 1400 miles away) and it's proximity to some walkable things and the light rail. The rent is $800 a month and that includes pet rent for both our dogs. It also had a lower pet deposit and regular deposit than other apartments we could find. The place was totally remodeled and we'll be the first people to live in our apartment after the remodel. (wood floors, good cabinets..etc)

I'm getting cold feet about its closeness to the students though! Is the area bad about partying or can I expect these students to be pretty calm?

Granted, we are in our mid to late 20s so I have a higher tolerance now than I might later. But I guess I just need a little reassurance.

1. There are no slums near DU.
2. Your rent is very good for Denver.
3. Students are both quiet and noisy. That is life.
4. Marijuana is now legal in Colorado. Relax.

My daughter lived within a block or two of DU as a grad student at the Health Science Center. She was in her early to mid 20s at the time and loved it! I agree with what Dave has said.

what direction will you be from du? while she was in grad school, my wife lived just south of the campus in an apartment and things weren't too bad. there's a few weekends a year with more partying than usual (halloween, cinco de mayo, etc) but on the whole it's not bad.

we're in a house about a half mile southwest of the campus and i pass by the campus pretty regularly. i love the neighborhood as there's a good variety of restaurants and parks to walk to, and the campus has a lot going on as well. feel free to pm me if you have more questions.

While I've never lived there I like the area. I think it is attractive and walking around the campus or visiting the local restaurants has always felt very safe. However, are you 100% sure this is a legit rental? Lower cost than others, lower deposit, recently remodeled with high quality finishes, renting from afar are all signals that someone may be scamming you. Check it out very carefully before you send anyone any money.

We're renting from wheelhouse apartments which is affiliated with Boutique apartments. I've spoken to the agent renting and to the apartment company seperately, and I have the option of sending them my deposit and rent before hand or the day we arrive, so I think we are in the clear!

Sounds like an awesome place to live. The $800/month seems almost too good to be true, given the tight rental market here.....

location:

literally two blocks east (i think..) I know we are right some behind student housing and near the greek housing, i believe. Right now we live in an area of town that is slowly becoming gentrified. I'm used to taking my dogs on a walk though an area where I can mingle with charming old ladies in beautiful homes and then immediately pass a drug deal. I'm beginning to think I can handle students getting a little crazy.

Definitely do it when your here and can see it. The rental market is very tight and any desirable place is usually snapped right up. As a result, when one is held for out of state renters with a lower deposit etc. there may be something wrong that only people who visit it can see and that is why it isn't renting locally.

The apartments around there are old and worn, basically what you'd expect for students. Nothing wrong with them though, they function. I saw 3 different places and decided to go elsewhere. The low rent doesnt suprise me, I am sure lots of people just wont live in that sort of situation. But hard to find those amenities and convenient location at a reasonable price too. Definitely will have to go see it before committing.
