I am curious what people think about this comment regarding "character" of the city of Denver-- It's something I came across over in the Wisconsin forum (the topic was property taxes but the line I found interesting was the one about "soul"):

"Oh, and my parents' house in Denver is like 1100sf and they pay 800/year -- so Madison does sound INSANE. But Denver is so soulless, to me anyway."

Do people agree or disagree with this?

According to the made-for-adult cartoon Southpark, gingers (red-headed freckled kids) have no soul. I guess Denver is full of gingers!

Where does that leave me?!

People's opinions are very subjective. One person can love a place and another absolutely hate it. It all depends on what is important to them.

People seem to have strong feelings for the place they grew up, then feel other cities pale by comparison. In my experience, that second attitude changed after we started raising a family. We got involved with schools, sports teams and church and felt very much at home. It also helped for me to stay home more and get to know the neighbors. I suppose you could do some of those things even if you didn't have a family and feel "conncected".

I basically disagree. Denver has soul.
But IMHO some parts of Denver have more character than others.

After a year of living here, I generally agree, but I would be hard-pressed to say why.

I agree, their lack of connection or settling in probably brings them to this conclusion. It may also be a reason they make up for moving back home. You hear things like this in so many other cities... to each their own.

Consider yourself lucky. When I was that age, I looked like that kid "Russell" from the Far Side Cartoon.

When I was a kid I was sort of shocked by the rudeness of adults in Denver. One was a shopkeeper at the train station. Another was a lady at a convenience store. A lot different from people in Texas.

But I haven't been there in a long time so I don't really know what it's like.

I agree with cil. Denver has soul, but some parts have
more than others, and/or have it more obviously...
plus of course it is at least partly a matter of one's
own personal taste!!!
