I am looking for bank recommendations. Hopefully a bank that has multiple locations. Also a free checking account that doesn't require a large minimum.

Colorado State Bank & Trust, as well as 1st bank have free checking.

CSBT will actually refund the ATM fees other banks charge you but they have "sneaky" fees such as inactivity fees etc. As long as you are on top of it and use the debit card sporadically you'll be fine

Why use a bank when credit unions are better?
My credit union happens to be headquartered in MA. I do all my banking via browser and phone.

No TD bank in CO, and their account closure is a pain if you don't do it in person. When we left NYC we decided to wait until we come visit before closing it, because it's a pain to do it over mail.

I can't think of any fees Wells has charged me, but perhaps you're thinking of ATMs? No fee if you use their own which is easy enough to do with so many locations.

Credit unions are also a viable option. I like Credit Union of Colorado.
