Sounds like a good fit to me (Of course, only you can decide that).

Me personally, haven't had any issues or concerns regarding race or fitting in. I just moved here from the Bay Area a couple months ago and am loving it (me being Mexican American, No kids, somewhat liberal, LGBT friendly, and working in tech) so that should give you an idea.

Being from CA, the main thing for me that took some getting used to, was the snow and learning to drive in it.

I am from So Cal and moved here about 10 years ago, spent my 20's there too and in my opinion the culture here is quite different. Yes there is diversity but nothing like So Cal. You will miss the warm weather, and $70k sounds quite low. I'd reconsider a move.

New Comp Sci college grads from CU or School of Mines start off around that number - more at a bigger company, less at a smaller one (but smaller companies usually offer equity to offset lower salary). But I know talented coders with two years experience out of school making close to $90k/year in Lodo...and senior C#/Java engineers getting up to $150K/year...
I dropped out of college my senior year and I have about a year of experience.
