How do these compare as far as cost of living, crime and schools? We are looking at the Denver and Colorado Springs areas. We are from Dallas with 2 kids ages 7 and 9.

We were given an option to relocate either to the Los Angeles area or the Denver area. From what I gather, our dollars will go a lot further in Denver.

Please, any info you can give would be wonderful. Thanks!

Dallas is lot like both Denver and Los Angeles--though in different ways. So you'll find plenty of similarities with Dallas no matter which city you choose.

Cost of living is a bit more expensive in Colorado--though not especially so. Schools are, for the most part, all-around solid in both COS and Denver. And crime is very low--most of it is minor property crime.

Schools are worse in most of LA, crime is higher, and the cost of living is famously higher. And I think Denver is a much better place to raise a familiy.

Denver is a very popular choice for relocating Texans so you'd definitely find a lot of others who have made the move.

Of course, a lot depends on which areas in each city you are looking at and how much house you can afford.

For schools, crime, and family considerations, I would suggest looking into Douglas County.....

We would be renting...looking for a 4 bdrm 2 bath that allows dogs in a nice family neighborhood with good schools. Craigslist shows many good, affordable houses for rent....of course I don't know what kind of area I'm looking at because I've never been to the Denver area!
