We are moving to Denver this summer. My daughter is an 06 and plays classic soccer. I am looking for a competitive program similar to hers. This year we went to 4 travel tournaments. She trains 3 times a week plus a day of technical training. VERY important to me is a program that does not only care about winning but also character development. We will be living south of Denver in the Cherry Creek High School District - she will attend West middle school. Any advice would be welcome! Thanks!

Storm is a good league down south. At the competitive level, all local leagues care quite a bit about winning and character development may depend more on the coach than the league. I believe tryouts may have already occurred, but I could be wrong. Stay away from Rapids. It's primarily rec, but they do have more competitive divisions -- their administration is a nightmare to deal with.

Good point on character developments being more about coach than league. Most tryouts for next year will happen in May/June as far as I can tell though some leagues do it a little differently. Do you know anything about skyline, real or rush?

Are you connected to a moms/parents group for the local area you'll be moving to? I'd try find out which league is the most popular there, so you can hopefully develop some friendships, carpool options, etc.

And fwiw, I have to agree about Rapids. My son played rec with them for about 5 years and it was mostly a great experience - the coaches were always good, he had a team of really nice boys, etc. But dealing with the office was a nightmare. They've been through several directors and it never got any better during our time.

You can find mom groups on facebook, usually if you just put the name of the city and moms or "moms of city name" you will find them.

Broomfield Soccer Club is a good club if you are moving to the north side of town.
