I worked for Trelora for 6 weeks, I am not a fan of assembly line real estate service.

I have sold my own house 3 times - but have been a real estate broker for longer.

There are buyers who are working with brokers that scour the MLS for new listings every hour of every day. The MLS is the largest tool in our toolbelt.

Not everyone uses Zillow or Trulia or homes.com You have to be advertised where the buyers who could buy your property are looking.

When you advertise your home on the MLS for sale you will have all these buyers getting a prospect match email and every broker who belongs to our MLS can find all the details on your property. The MLS is an offer of cooperation & compensation.

I recently published my 4th real estate book including one about how trying to sell for sale by owner often costs the seller thousands of dollars with the mistakes they make by not using a full service agent who has professional training and is seasoned at marketing and negotiations. I think the analogy would be complaining about dental costs so tying a string around a door knob and yanking your own tooth out rather than going to professional.

Let’s see.

Dentist: 4 years college + 4 years dental school + national exam.

Real estate agent: 4 months of real estate classes + local exam

So, is the same.

Dave,

Prelicense school is 168 hours and you have to pass the school test with 80% or better. Then there is a state test AND a national test. You have to go through a fingerprint cbi/fbi background check.

Oh, well, if you have to go through a fingerprint check and background check...it must be highly professional, right?

Trelora is more like a listing service in that you can get exposure through the MLS through this discount brokerage, which if you wanted to do a For Sale By Owner you would not be able to get that same exposure. The only thing with Trelora like having a FSBO though is that you have to do a lot of leg work and make sure your home is appropriately priced to sell and so on. Also, you will work with a group of people in that agency and not just one agent so there won't be any open houses or marketing to get your house sold.

To some people it may not be worth the hassle to save on the commission, but if you are selling a 500K home it can be quite a sum of money. The other thing you have to be aware of is that if you don't offer the buyer's agent their full commission whether you do FSBO or Trelora, they will have a tendency not to show their buyers your house. Again, in a strong market like Denver I don't think it should be too much of a problem if your home is priced appropriately.
