Hello,

I am from out of state and looking to try my hand at snowshoeing. Looking at the weather and snow fall, doesn't look like there is much dry powder now.

Are you all snowshoeing this time of the year?

Thanks!

Our snowpack is pretty low so far this year. You're going to have to go up into the mountains if you want to snowshoe. Look into Butler Gulch/Jones Pass, or Mayflower Gulch. The first two are near Winter Park, and the last one is between Copper Mountain and Leadville.

Closer to town is Echo Lake up Squaw Pass. Usually good snow
Lair O’ the Bear, but that gets crowded quick. Snow is hit or miss.
Both of these don’t require I 70 which can be an advantage.

One other place you can try since we've gotten some snow lately is Chief Mountain or Squaw Mountain. They're next to each other between Evergeen and Echo Lake off Squaw Pass Road. Chief is a trail and Squaw is a road so Chief gets done more often than Squaw, but Squaw has an inactive fire lookout (that can be rented for overnighting) on its summit.

Squaw Mountain
