i've been reading online that bed bugs are making a big resurgence in the u.s. due to decreased usage of pesticides like DDT. from time to time i wake up with itchy little bites around the waistband of my pajamas and now i'm wondering if that's what they are! i suppose it's also possible that my dog has brought in some fleas, but i've never seen evidence of any sort of bug, so i have no idea. is anyone else here waking up with itchy little red bites on 'em, and do you have any idea what it is?

Have you checked the mattress seams and along the bed frame for bugs? That's where they tend to gather (from what I've read.) My DH travels weekly staying in hotels all over the country. It's been my biggest fear that one day bed bugs would hitch a ride home with him and end up here. So far, no problems - but I do a thorough check of our mattress weekly. Have never seen a flea here either in eight years and we've had a dog for 7 of those years.

I've read that bed bugs are making a HUGE come back. I saw there was something on 60 minutes (or Dateline or one of those sort TV news magazine shows) in the past year about it. Seems many hotels (even really nice ones) are having trouble with them, and they're in used furniture, etc.. REALLY bad in New York City and some other more cosmopolitan (more international travelers, for example) cities. I guess they tend to leave lines of bites (like 3 or 4 in a row). I've also seen it's getting to be an issue in Denver, though I don't know how much of an issue.

bedbugs are making a comeback. check your sheets for bloodspots and under the mattress and such as well. most pest control companies do free inspections for bugs and termites, though treatment for bedbugs is spotty at best. they can be fumigated at around 10x the volume of vikane gas i believe. crack and crevice treatments work, but you need a very good pest control technician in order to get an effective treatment

The odds of you having a spider bite are slim to none. Spiders dont bite just to bite, but will bite if threatened. Bugs bite to feed where spiders do not.

the things creep me out!!!

my dad before I would go to bed had a little rhyme he would say to us.

"good night, sleep tight, dont let the bed bugs bite" I never really got it until I started hearing about the bed bugs coming back. lol I say the exact same thing to my daughter now when I put her down for bed. Hope we never see them in our rooms

Noahma,

Here is one thing that I swear by ( no matter what your religion or beliefs are!!)

When we/us tuck our little ones into bed at night,....think of this..

Now I lay me down to sleep...I pray the Lord, my soul to keep...guard me Jesus through the night,,,,and wake me with the morning light. If I die before I wake,....I pray the Lord my soul to take.

WHAT??????????????? IF I DIE BEFORE I WAKE???????????

Does anyone wonder WHY their children don't sleep??????????????

Nuff said.

Default Informative video

Here is a very informative video I found on bed bugs. I didn't know much about them until now.

YouTube - Bed Bugs

Also found the following: Bed Bugs: Pictures, Infestation Treatment, Bite Symptoms and Detection on MedicineNet.com

How do I detect a bed bug infestation in my home?

You can look to see if you can identify the fecal stains, egg cases, and exuviae (shed skins) in crevices and cracks on or near beds. You should also look at other areas such as under wallpaper, behind picture frames, in couches and other furniture, in bed springs, and even in articles of clothing. While fecal stains and skin casts suggest that bed bugs have been present, these do not confirm that the infestation is still active. Observing the bed bugs themselves is definitively confirmation that your home is infested. You may require professional assistance in determining whether your home contains bed bugs.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I actually said this prayer every night as a child. I found it quite comforting.
