I am travelling driving from Chicago to Keystone. Tomorrow (3/21/10) we will be in staying in Denver for the day and need suggestions on what to do for attractions. We have 3 adults and 2 kids ages 7 & 8. Any recommendations for Denver and/or Georgetown? Thanks!

Exciting minds of all ages through scientific discovery : Denver Museum of Nature & Science

Your children are great ages for the Science and Nature Museum.

I'd actually like to bump this thread.

I have several friends/family visiting my wife and I (we moved here six months ago) in April. They range in age from 8 to 65. I've read Frommer's so I know about the museums, zoos, etc.

But I'm looking for some more "active" activities that they dont necessarily list in a guidebook. So far, I've come across a gourmet-food walking tour of downtown Denver (sounds yummy), and biking downhill down Pikes Peak. Does anybody else have any other recommendations?

OP, you better check tomorrow's weather forecast. They are predicting snow in Denver Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday. I just looked at the forecast for Keystone and it is for 3 to 6 inches tomorrow, then more Tuesday night into Wednesday. If it were me I'd skip the hanging around Denver and head on up to Keystone. You can find plenty to do up there besides skiing.

really? We're new to the area - that sounds fabulous. Would you mind sharing where you got that information, or where the tour is??

I would suggest going to the Far East Center. It is on the Southwest Corner of Alameda and Federal. The shopping center has a welcomed Pagoda arch. You will find Asian Grocery Stores, Bakeries, Restaurant and all kinds of little shops.

Stop at the Bakery in the corner and get yourself some nice buns. Walk around the shops. This will fascinate the young people, who will want to buy, all the nice little unique trinkets and gifts. Trust me, you will not be able to get the girls out of the clothes shops when they see those inviting Asian dresses.

Eat at one of the restaurants there or go down Federal a few blocks and you will see much of what Denver offers in Asian Culture.

It is a great area to spend an afternoon and you will be able to be well fed.

We will be coming to Denver next weekend (anniversary coming up). I would love recommendations on things to do with a 20 month old, preferably free.

I don't know, 20 months is pretty young, but here are a few ideas:
Greenwood Village has a really awesome playground at Westlands Park, S. Quebec and Orchard Rd (SE Denver, DTC)
You can hike around at Red Rocks Park and Ampitheater in Morrison (SW Metro Area)
You can hike around and see real dinosaur tracks and fossils at Dinosaur Ridge, C470 and Alameda (SW Metro Area)
You can tour the Hammonds Candy Factory, 58th and Washington (N Denver)
You can see a real buffalo herd at Buffalo Bill's grave, I70 at exit 254
The Littleton Museum has a 1800s era farm and other activities
Cherry Creek Mall has great shopping for adults and a play area for the kid
The Central Denver Library has a great kids area.

Here are some cheap things to do:
The Rockies are in town from April 9-15, and you can buy Rock Pile tix for $4 apiece.
Jump Street in Littleton has a bunch of inflatable jumping castles for $4/day. (Not a lot of fun for you, but the kid will love it.)
The Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden is pretty cheap $8 tickets for adults, your kid will be free.
The Denver Zoo is $12/person for adults.
The Children's Museum is always fun - $7.50 adults, $5.50 kid
