Does anyone know if the 160 people let go from the John Deere Ankeny plant were ever called back? I work at the tractor assembly plant in Waterloo and was just curious.

I heard about them being let go but never heard of them being called back. I am doubting it happened.

The John Deere Ankeny plant hired those laid off as well as hiring several hundred more. Business volumes returned back to above normal about 6 months after the layoff.

And since they had a banner year last year they are building a new plant - in China.

Default And the rest of the story...

Employment at the Ankeny plant has almost doubled.

John Deere factories across the USA are working overtime right now, with American workers, building equipment for American farmers as well as exporting this equipment across the globe. The China plant, will be making equipment for China farmers, not for import into the USA.

Hi! I am an Activity asst. at a retirement community in Newton,IA. I am trying to find out
if the Ankeny John Deere plant allows tours? If so, when? Is there a better way to make contact with someone from that facility? I would like to plan a bus trip for some of our retired farmers from here at Park Centre as I 'm sure they'd enjoy it immensely.
Here is hoping to hear your reply soon!
Thanks,
Lisa Blommers

Have you considered picking up the phone and calling John Deere. The Internet is not the answer to all questions.

Agreed, instead of waiting for the slim chance of someone from John Deere finding this message on a random message board, just give them a call to see. Info can be found here: Industry Des Moines Works Gold Key Tour JohnDeere.com
