Hi there. I am new to DSM. I am considering Evergreen Terrace Apartments. Is the neighborhood safe?

How about Drake park apartment? which one is better? Thanks a lot.

Evergreen Trace is in an area of high density section 8 apartment complexes on the SE side of town, it's advantage over Drake Park would be that it has all your shopping needs close by, it's close to grocery stores, wall mart and a Burger King is close by, and Easter Lake/Ewing Park is nearby.....a nice escape. By Des Moines standards it may be higher crime than some other parts of town, but not like a large city ghetto with constant criminal activity. It probably will be more quiet than Drake Park Apartments to be truthful, if were just talking about noise issues.

Drake Park Apartments 1260 34th is just west of Drake University on greek street, you will have noisy frat parties going on. Most of that 2 block long section of 34th is all fraternities, with DP apartments right in the middle. Drake is a law school however, so I would not expect Blutto to be climbing a ladder up to your window for a peek or chugging a bottle of JD on your front lawn, but they are college kids so you have to consider there will be more noise except in the summer when the kids are gone. The only grocery store that is close by is Dahls, a slightly more upscale grocer and other shopping in the immediate area is pretty sparse.

Dahls is upscale? I dont think it is. And its often cheaper than HyVee.
