If you want a restaurant in Des Moines that has a menu with a wide variety of choices and excellent food at a reasonable price, I suggest The Chicago Speakeasy on Euclid Avenue. It has been a fixture here for over thirty years. They will take reservations for a group of four or more, but they will also allow any size group to do a half hour call-ahead for a table. If you want to just show up and put your name in for a table, they have a very large bar area with plenty of seating while you wait. Besides their excellent food, in my opinion their salad bar (free when ordering a meal) is the best in Des Moines.
