Are you serious? I'm sure people move to Dubuque from Des Moines but I've never heard of it as a destination to be ... As far as Des Moines being dead and economically slow growing, are you sheltered? Have you ever been here? This is one of the fastest growing metro areas in the midwest. I don't know where your careerbuilder.com theory comes from? Maybe because that website sucks? I've used it. You're probably really smart though, I can tell.

Yeah, the Des Moines metro has grown by 75,000 people since 2000. The state of Iowa has grown overall by 75,000 people since 2000.

You can't possibly say that Des Moines has one of, if not the best economy in Iowa. I would think only Iowa City would rival Des Moines as far as population growth %, economy, construction, etc. (of course Iowa City is on a much smaller level).

I like Dubuque a lot, but I wouldn't really say it's BOOMING or a huge destination. I've been there a few times in the past year, and they're doing a lot downtown but I didn't notice anything crazy. I mean the metro has only grown by 3,000 people since 2000, with the city supposedly losing population during that time.

Compared to places like Des Moines, or the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area which has grown by 36,000, Dubuque isn't really rockin.

If I am offered a job in Des Moines, I am moving there with no hesitation

Hey- I just agree with what you are saying. I live here and really like it. Good schools, low crime, easy to get around, friendly people, open spaces, ect...... It has everything I want, as well as a good airport for trips to the south during the winter. I don't have any knocks against Des Moines.

Dubuque is a nice town too. Very nice older homes and pretty scenery. IBM opened a new buisness there which is attracting many people for jobs. Dubuque is about 95% Catholic (we are too, but it seems a bit odd). I really like the river views in Dubuque and the people there are very friendly. A very nice town as well.
