Chrysler Group LLC said Tuesday it has suspended nine workers without pay after a Detroit television station aired footage of them allegedly drinking and smoking marijuana before their shifts at an area plant.

Chrysler said it identified the workers using the station's video. All nine have been suspended without pay while the company investigates and determines what action should be taken.

Yeah, only this time it was a different Chrysler plant. They never seem to learn, do they? Sadly, this is far from only being a Chrysler problem. I knew someone who worked at a convenience store in Toledo while he was in college, and he said that the employees from the GM Powertrain plant next door to the store would literally run over on their lunch breaks so that they could buy their beer and start drinking right away, hoping to get a buzz before their lunch break was over.

I think that it is a no brainer that these Chrysler guys who got caught should be fired too, but the reason they haven't yet is probably because the company has to be careful due to the strong union that these guys belong to. Personally, it makes me sick to think of how many decent guys who would gladly follow the company's policies are out of work and would kill to have a good job like these doper guys took for granted. I hope they all get fired.

And I'm sure you never drink, you have shunned anyone in your family who ever drank, and nobody who works at Fox 2 ever drinks (right).

If any of them have a past history of this behavior actually affecting their work quality/safety, then they should be canned, but if they merely do what 80% of America does, reasonable efforts to deter such actions are more reasonable.

Agreed.

And you gotta love our low-budget, bottom-barrel Fox News station.

They weren't just drinking, they were getting high too. Fox 2 didn't dig this story up, these guys' co-workers contacted Fox 2 because they were concerned about the condition that these guys were working in and the potential danger that they were placing themselves and their co-workers in because of it. It's extremely selfish to get high and/or drunk and then work next to someone while handling things like electricity and heavy equipment, not to mention that it isn't fair to the company to manufacture their product while impaired. It's about personal responsibility and having concern and respect for your co-workers and your employer. With unemployment being what it is in this economy, you would think that they would get it. Sadly, they don't.

Huh? 80% of Americans are drunk/high on the job? How would you like to be working with a drunk/high coworker who is operating heavy machinery in your presence? How would you like to be in a car that was built by a drunk/high worker?

They should start random and reasonable cause drug and alcohol testing. They are using potentially deadly machinery and are building vehicle that are critical to the well-being of drivers and passengers.

This makes zero sense. You need to learn to read for meaning.

That one guy Terry (whom Fox alleged had lost his license) was friggin' hammered and getting into his car. The guy was so drunk he could barely speak. This goes beyond going to work drunk. That is between Chrysler and its employees. That guy Terry will eventually kill someone. Could be me since I work down that way. Could be you, Tuxedo...or someone you love. Undefendable.
