"Don't be afraid of Detroit" is actually subtly inferring that someone should have been afraid of Detroit. Of it that person wasn't, at least makes one think - should I have been.

Would never wear a tshirt or support a cause that preyed on fear. We have nothing to apologize for.

If it was a "Detroit vs. Everybody" or "Nothing Stops Detroit" - then we're celebrating our strengths. And I would buy it. Which I have.

Default How about. . .

"Detroit: where the weak are killed and eaten.". (In jest, of course)

Anyone with any marketing sense *at all* knows that you never use negativity to sell something. It's like poison. Whomever came up with this "slogan" is an idiot.

The "Opportunity Made In Detroit" and "Pure Michigan" advertisements/slogans are much better than "Don't be afraid of Detroit".

The only thing the later accomplishes is furthering negative stereotypes about the place.

Back in the day the city launched a campaign called "Say Nice Things About Detroit," which, of course, made it a total laughingstock of everyone everywhere.

What else is new.

What about "Detroit.....America's Tech City"? Or borrow Troy's theme: "Detroit...City of Tomorrow...Today" All the people buying the "Don't be afraid of Detroit" are people who want to show off their courage for having been to Detroit. It is a mockery. Anyway, teeshirts won't improve the image. The elimination of blight, filling in of Downtown and Midtown with businesses and housing, and a decrease in violence would have a much more beneficial impact on the city's image.
