There could and probably will be some bumps, but I am sure the white house won't make too much trouble (really BAD for polls).

In a another sense, this could be a trigger to help Detroit pull a Pittsburgh.

They have got to get rid of these unions that suck these company's money. Because of this, they didn't even have the money to keep up with Toyota and Toyota has NO UNION. They're smart.

Uhhh, Toyota has a unionized workforce. In Japan and Venezuela for instance.

Just watch pro-union forces advance on Toyota and Honda in the U.S. as their sales continue to plummet, costs continue to rise as inflation ratchets up, and they drastically start cutting wages in the factories.

I was listening to the Steve Harvey radio show this morning. I listened about the fact that so many people would be put out of jobs in Detroit. It has been happening already, but it is getting worse. I think about the people who have to go home unemployed and how much trouble that will be. I hope something WILL not can, but WILL be done to solve Detroit's disturbing situation.

People in Detroit and the surrounding area are hurting more than people not from this area can know. We also find it hard to understand the hate that we are experiencing through this process.

At the end of WWII and into the 50's and 60's, the Michigan auto industry opened its doors to people from all over the country. The people of this area opened our arms to families and welcomed them into our lives.

Yes there are benefits from being in a union. But to think that the unions have sucked the companies dry is not true. What would it benefit a union to deplete the company it is working for?........ Some common sense please.

If your family is from South East Michigan, ask your grand father about the unions and if he was sorry to be a part of them..

Then ask if he is going to be glad to see them go?

I know if my father had stayed in the union he would have had a FULL pension. Because he was management the last 7 years prior to retirement and the company quit paying into the management retirement and even raided it for $$, he was able to collect $90 a month for 30 years of service...as a union member he would have collected $1500 or more a month...

My boyfriend is a GM retiree and his brother is a Chrysler retiree and I can tell you that they have become physically ill watching the news about all this. They worry about their pensions and healthcare coverage at the time when they need it the most. People that don't live in this area have no clue as to what it is like for them.

Personally, I believe that GM belongs in Detroit even though they have fewer workers. I can even begin to think what would become of the RenCen if GM moved. GM has put such a large investment into the RenCen and riverwalk, it would put Detroit back 20-25 years if GM moved.
It is true that GM may be moving out of Detroit! sadly...

We will not be passive,” said Greenville County Council Chairman Butch Kirven, citing reports from Detroit that General Motors Corp. may want to move its headquarters. Kirven suggested Greenville officials contact the struggling automaker about moving here

But he cautioned such an option isn't "queued up at the top of the list" and the company is proud to be in the city.

Will GM move to China?
Now it turns out that GM's CEO is headquarters shopping. More specifically, it's talking about moving out of Detroit. and maybe opening its headquarters somewhere else. I think GM may be considering moving to other countries like Brazil, China, or perhaps over the border into Canada. From GM's perspective, it should relocate to whichever country will enable it to be most competitive globally. (I don't want them to move out of America or even Detroit because Detroit is in a depression not a recession in my opinion)!
