Default Detroit Question

Hi -
Is Tracey Street south of 7 mile a decent area? Crime? Any jobs in the area?

Thanks,
Scott

Wel, it's a BUSY area with a lot going on. The crime is only so-so -- for the really exciting stuff you need to head to more of a crack-house district .

I can't kid you, though, job are at a premioum down that way. there are openings, but there are also 40 applicants for almost every one of them. What kind of job would you be looking for? Check Craigslist and the other online classifieds, bearing firmly in mind that 90% of jobs open are not listed there, in part because it is getting too expensive to do so.

How hard is it for a woman to get a waitressing job in Detroit or the close suburbs. We're thinking about buying in Boston Edison. She's currently a waitress in a Denny's type restaurant.

I just moved here, so I'm not sure what the job market is like, I've only heard it's bad. I can tell you that my girlfriend applied for six or so min-wage type part-time jobs and never received a call back (she's a second-time around college student and should have been extremely qualified for any of them). It also seems that a large number of people I've talked to have lost their jobs and are trying to make ends meet doing something else. At the last restaurant I went to our middle-aged waitress was an out-of-work lawyer. She picked up the waitressing job because she was family friends with the owner of the restaurant.

Same answer. The jobs are out there but the competition is fierce. An experienced waitress would have a much better shot than a green teen, however.
